Helping Hands in HaitiAs we watch the terrible suffering in Haiti, many of us want to do something to help. It seems the very best thing we can do is to donate money to help buy water, food and clothes. Most credible disaster organizations tell us, "give money" instead of goods (etc., cans of groceries, clothes, etc.). I think this is a very good suggestion. As you can see, Cultural Care has initiated its own program of giving and they have registered with the American Red Cross (read their announcement under Today's News). The Red Cross is one of the most reliable organizations you can donate money too and know that most of your dollars will get to the people who need it most. The Red Cross can funnel needed supplies to Haiti much more quickly than individuals or local groups can. Their warehouse, located in Panama, has already shipped out supplies for more than 5,000 families - food, clothes, cooking supplies, tarps. So far, the Red Cross has pledged $10 million in aid to Haiti! Thanks to Cultural Care's thoughtful and timely response, more children will receive the basics they so desperately need: medical help, water and food. Yes, I saw this from Cultural Care this morning. It is a great move on their part and I like the fact they are on "top" of the news and what is going on around the world (and not just ignoring events like this).
If I hadn't already sent in money, I would have done it through their website. Did you read the story about the au pair (previous au pair) that was killed in the first earthquake?
